JUUL Review 2016

2015 saw the launch of one of the most exciting and accessible ecigs, the JUUL Vaporizer. The Electric Tobacconist® Chief Tester takes a closer look at it and reviews it from a first-time vaper point of view. The JUUL by PAX Labs, Inc is nothing like other vaporizer products on the market. The most common ecigs fall into one of three categories only: the cigarette-style, the pen-style and the box mod. For all the ingenuity and development in the fast-growing vaping industry, it's funny that until now there were really only three shapes. There are of course exceptions (like the Cool Fire 2 by Innokin, for example), but this is the first thing that struck me when I received my JUUL sample for review - it looks different. It's still kind of pen-shaped and fits nicely in the pocket, but the design is certainly unique.

A Closer Look at the DesignThe JUUL Vaporizer looks more like a stylus than a pen. In the same way a stylus is in many ways a 21st Century Pen, the JUUL - with its graphite color - has a more modern look to it than your usual pen-style ecig. It's also smaller than a classic 650mAh eGo vaporizer (the most common type/size) and fits in the palm with a little more subtlety.

Set up and charge
The JUUL is very much targeted at first-time users, but I wouldn't be surprised if many of its users were happy to stay on it long-term. Vapers rarely stay with the first e-cigarette type they try, perhaps because users of new technology (which e-cigarettes still are, even in 2016) tend to be curious types. The JUUL is particularly easy to use, with JUUL Pod refills slotting easily onto the battery with minimum fuss. At The Electric Tobacconist® HQ we often trial new products and ask if it passes the "Aunt Bessie Test". This is a test that measures simplicity. Aunt Bessie is your elderly (fictional) Aunt who isn't very tech savvy. If she could operate it, then anyone could, so we always ask: does this pass the Aunt Bessie Test? The answer here is an emphatic 'yes'. Even the charging of the device has been covered here. The JUUL has a magnet in it that sticks to the charging receiver you slot into the USB port of your PC or laptop.

Refills and Flavors
Refills for the JUUL vaporizer come in several flavors and are known as JUUL Pods. They come in classic flavors like tobacco (Tabaac) and menthol (Miint), but there are also alternative options such as Fruut, Bruule, Multi and Coco Mint (launched in late 2015).

JUUL Review Overall
You can get more vapor and more flavor options out of more powerful devices, but JUUL Vapor is a seriously good option if you're a new vaper. I certainly wish I'd had this option instead of some of the ecigs I tried when I first got into vaping.
